How landmark reforms will support the nations recovery from the pandemic

It was good to hear the Prime Minister’s talking up the need to boost workforce skills.

The new Lifetime Skills Guarantee will create a post-16 and adult education and training system that is fit for the future, provide the skills that people need for well-paid high-quality jobs and opportunities to train throughout their lifetime.

The key legislative measure for our employers will be that they will have a statutory role in planning publicly-funded training programmes with education providers, through a ‘Skills Accelerator’ programme, that puts local employers at the centre of provision.

The programme will build stronger partnerships between employers and local further education colleges, or other training providers, ensuring that provision meets the area’s needs in sectors including construction, digital, clean energy and manufacturing.

The Skills and Post-16 Education Bill will provide these reforms with the statutory footing that they need, to introduce new opportunities for everyone aged over 16, across the country.

It’s great that my first blog on our new portal can be such as positive one. The UK must hit the ground running if we are to bounce back successfully from the impact of COVID and this PM announcement is such an important matter for employers.
