Headquarters North and 101st (Northumbrian) Regiment Royal Artillery (101RA) was the base for a unique event to mark National Apprenticeship Week.
The Apprentice Military Challenge, at the Army Reserves Centre at Napier Armoury, Gateshead, was supported by NEANN and our amazing Ambassadors who signed up for a day of drilling.
35 apprentices, with eight colleagues from ten businesses attended, got ‘green & dirty’ while learning about The British Army Reserves and 101RA.
Designed to inspire, test, and challenge, all while building confidence, and teamworking, the brave souls taking part competed in a shooting contest, military comms training using of the VHF manpack radio, a planning exercise testing strategic skill, command task, and fieldcraft utilising camouflage and concealment. Getting into the spirit involved green coveralls and CAM cream!!

NEAAN Co-Chair, Jenienne Hinchliffe said: “The Apprentice Military Challenge was incredible and a huge success. Thanks must go to everyone at Napier Armoury for a genuinely thrilling experience.”
Keith Robson attended with six first year EGGER Group Apprentices: “It’s good to see everyone working as a team, who takes the lead and who steps back. The activities help form bonds for when they are at work.”
Katie Dawson, of NEPO, came with four Apprentices: “It was nice to see our Apprentices working with those from other businesses, increasing their network, as they worked in teams.”
