The Great Apprentice Bake-Off is once again turning up the heat on Apprenticeships Ambassadors.

The event is the fourth, and largest ever, bake-off to be organised by the North East Apprentices Ambassador Network (NEAAN), marking National Apprenticeship Week 2024.

Once again, bakers from Networks across the country will be put through their paces between February 6-8, competing in a British Army kitchen, mentored by skilled Army chefs more used to making meals on the frontline than overseeing Apprentice Ambassadors.

The event marks National Apprenticeship Week 2024 and provides a showcase for current and former apprentices to demonstrate how apprenticeships prepare people to operate successfully outside their comfort zones, utilising skills learned in an “alien” environment.

NEAAN has worked with the British Army for the last two years to successfully run the Bake-Off, at a base in Grantham, Lincolnshire, and at the Sage for the inaugural event in 2019. North East Ambassadors will compete against compatriots from across the country in a baked goods battle royale – which is just one part of a week-long programme of events to celebrate apprenticeships and demonstrate the benefits they offer individuals and businesses of all sizes.

Apprentice Ambassador Chair, Jessica Duff, said: “Apprenticeships are the perfect entry point for many people looking to start their career and Apprenticeship Week is the ideal showcase to demonstrate the breadth of exciting apprenticeships that are available.

“I’m sure the Army chefs and instructors on hand offer fantastic support, but like Gordon Ramsay, they don’t suffer fools and will let Ambassadors know when they’re stepping out of line – it’s not one for the faint-hearted.”

While the northern event will once again be held at the Army barracks at Grantham, Worthy Down Base in Hampshire will welcome bakers from the south of the country. Each “baker” receives a branded apron and chef’s hat while winners will receive a trophy.

As well as the Bake-Off, NEAAN has arranged and will support partners with several other activities and events over the course of National Apprenticeship Week, February 5-11.
