Cheers to the HR&D Professionals and Companies Putting People First in the North East!

June 20, 2023

NEAAN was proud to support the North East HR&D Awards 2023, which reveals the region’s top HR professionals and the companies putting people first.

The Fed Gateshead was filled with businesses, teams and individuals for the finals on June 15, with this year’s awards all about celebrating the contribution of the HR&D profession while raising the profile of the North East as a fantastic place to live and work.

We were sponsors of the “Excellence in Apprenticeships” award and it was fantastic to see one of our regional partners scoop a top honour! Hays Travel has been an accredited training provider since 2010 with its apprenticeship history going back to the business’s inception in 1980.

The company believes apprentices are vital to the success of the organisation, investing heavily in learning and development to support each apprentice on their individual journey.

NEAAN Co-Chair, Ian Green, said: “Hays has a fantastic history of promoting apprenticeships and providing high-quality opportunities for people keen to make careers in the travel industry.

“It was a real honour to be able to present Head of Learning and Development Angela Riseam-Smith with this prestigious award that recognises the firm’s effort and commitment.”

NEAAN Co-Chair, Jenienne Hinchcliffe, was also among the evening’s winners, with Northumberland County Council receiving the Excellence and Positive Impact Award. The Council incorporates the values of respect, putting residents first, keeping the community safe and well, and serving excellence and quality, into its work.

Jenienne said: “The Council winning this award is tremendous, as we put residents at the heart of everything we do. Our Council’s investment in apprenticeships has also helped increase employability opportunities in the region.”
